IMPORTÂNCIA DA VIGILÂNCIA LABORATORIAL EM EMERGÊNCIAS DE SAÚDE PÚBLICA:

O EXEMPLO DO INSTITUTO ADOLFO LUTZ NO BRASIL

Resumo

A saúde pública é uma questão importante. Tratando-se do controle das doenças infecciosas, a vigilância laboratorial permite identificar e monitorar patógenos, aprofundando a compreensão de sua biologia e epidemiologia, que variam ao longo do tempo. Esses pontos são exemplificados pelos serviços do Instituto Adolfo Lutz no Brasil, os quais começaram à época do entendimento sobre os microrganismos e se estenderam até hoje, durante a era da vigilância genômica de novas variantes de SARS-CoV-2. As atividades deste instituto de pesquisa colaboraram com o controle de diversas doenças, exemplificado nesta revisão pela Doença Meningocócica, endêmica, bem como para responder às epidemias de Influenza H1N1 em 2009 e à atual COVID-19. As atividades laboratoriais ajudam a entender a dinâmica das doenças infecciosas, permitindo seu controle e alcance de melhor qualidade de vida para a população, que são objetivos da saúde pública.

Amanda Izeli Portilho, Instituto Adolfo Lutz/ Universidade de São Paulo

Amanda Izeli Portilho is a Master student at the Post-graduate Program Interunits in Biotechnology, of University of São Paulo, developing her project at  the Immunology Center of Adolfo Lutz Institute, both located in São Paulo, SP, Brazil. Received her Bachelor Degree in Biomedicine (2017) from Centro Universitário Central Paulista (São Carlos, São Paulo, SP). She is a Specialist in Laboratory Surveillance in Public Health (2019) for the São Paulo State Health Secretary Program at Adolfo Lutz Institute. She has experience in Immunology and Molecular Biology for public health diseases. Currently studies mucosal immunization strategy against Neisseria meningitidis at Elizabeth De Gaspari’s Lab.

Gabriela Trzewikoswki de Lima, Instituto Adolfo Lutz/Universidade de São Paulo

Gabriela Trzewikoswki de Lima is Bachelor in Pharmacy, from Cruzeiro do Sul University (2015). She concluded the Immunology and Molecular Biology Applied for Diseases of Public Health's Interest Program of the São Paulo State Health Secretary at Adolfo Lutz Institute (2018). She has a Master degree in Sciences from the Post-graduate Program Interunits in Biotechnology, of the University of São Paulo (2020). She has expertise in immunology, vaccinology and molecular biology.

Elizabeth De Gaspari, Instituto Adolfo Lutz/Universidade de São Paulo

Elizabeth De Gaspari is a Researcher Scientist at Immunology Center of Adolfo Lutz Institute, and Professor at the Post-graduate Program Interunits in Biotechnology, of University of São Paulo, both located in São Paulo, SP, Brazil. She is a bachelor in Biomedicine (1978) from Santo Amaro University. Has a Master Degree (1983) in Microbiology and Immunology, from the Federal University of São Paulo (São Paulo, SP). Obtained her Ph.D degree (1990) in Immunology, from the University of São Paulo (São Paulo, SP). Was a Post-doc fellow (1992) in the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (Washington, DC, USA). Collaborated with different institutions abroad. She has experience in Immunology, with emphasis on the topics: neonatal immunology, maternal-fetal interaction, mucosal immunology, adjuvants and monoclonal antibodies. Her studies had focused on Neisseria meningitidis, but currently, she is also studying immune response and vaccine platforms for SARS-CoV-2.
