O IMPACTO DA PANDEMIA DA COVID-19 NA PREVENÇÃO DO CÂNCER DO COLO UTERINO EM MINAS GERAIS, BRASIL
Abstract
Cervical cancer is a malignant tumor caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and its prevention can be done through the vaccine and the preventive test, popularly known as the Papanicolaou test. However, with the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020, prevention against cervical cancer and several other diseases was undermined. In this sense, the present study aimed to analyze the impact caused by the covid-19 pandemic on vaccination and the performance of cytopathological tests, using public data available in the Brazilian health system. The results of this work showed that there was a reduction in the number of HPV vaccines applied, as well as a reduction in the number of Papanicolaou tests performed during the Covid-19 pandemic. These facts directly affected cervical cancer screening, reflecting an increase in the number of new cases of this disease.
